#LITweetup Helps! A Success for Island Harvest

LITweetup helps press logo

For the past few weeks, I have been involved in planning the #LITweetup Helps! Food Drive.  After just a few short weeks, myself and a great group of 4 other people planned a series of 3 events to benefit Island Harvest.  It feels so good to help others, especially during this time of year.

During the 9 hours of LITweetup Helps! :

  • Approximately 155 pounds of food was collected
  • $117 was raised (according to Island Harvest $1 provides 2 meals)

You can see LITweetup.com for more detailed blog posts about each event by myself, Jeff Namnum (@Namnum) and Steve Haweeli (@SteveHaweeli).  Many thanks to all who attended and donated.  It was great seeing everyone in person and meeting some new tweeps! Also, thanks to the great managers at Panera Bread who were kind enough to offer to hold our donations until Island Harvest comes to pick up their Thanksgiving donation.

On a side note, I just want to say thank you to the rest of the LITweetup Helps! Organizing Committee (Jeff Namnum, Mitch Hagler, Jean Prytyskacz and Steve Haweeli).  You are truly a fantastic group of people and together we did a really good thing!  It has been a great few weeks and I look forward to the next set of charity events that we hold.

Local Tweetup + Charity = LITweetup Helps!

I am honored to have been asked to be on the Organizing Committee for LITweetup Helps!, a 3-day food drive event for Island Harvest – Long Island’s leading hunger relief organization! I am all for tweetups.  And I am all for charity.  So why not put the two together? @theshoedawg came up with the idea and I paired him with @namnum, one of the founders of LITweetup.  Two weeks later, we, along with the help of @stevehaweeli and @jeanprytyskacz, were able to accomplish this:

Facebook events pageIf you aren’t busy that weekend and live in the Long Island area, I hope you stop down to one of the events with a donation.  It will be great company, great food (Panera…YUM) and for a great cause. How can you go wrong? Check out the official facebook page and the LITweetup website for further information!
