Have it Your Way…With a Beer!

Burger King has come up with a new way to compete with casual dining restaurants: Whopper Bar. That’s right.  A bar.  At Burger King. The first Whopper Bar will open in South Beach, in Mid-February.  A beer at Whopper Bar will be $4.25.  Or if you want a Whopper Combo with a supersize beer (just kidding, they can’t supersize the beers), it will be $7.99.  This is a real deal! A normal Whopper combo with a fountain drink is usually $5.99.  You can’t beat a beer for $2.  Gotta love the combo menu.

According to USA Today:

By trying to wedge into the fast-casual dining arena with Whopper Bar, Burger King is chasing the 30-and-under crowd, which is the industry’s future growth, says Bradford Hudson, marketing professor at Boston University. But the move is very tricky, he says, because “Burger King means fast food.”  But Linda Lipsky, a restaurant consultant, says the move makes sense. “The Burger King customer is aging, so they’re just trying to grow up with the customer.”  The restaurant will initially sell Anheuser-Busch and Miller Coors beers. “You can have America’s favorite beers with America’s favorite burger,” Fallon says. More will eventually be added, he says.

And don’t worry, Whopper Bar delivers, just not the beer. Now, my question is, who in South Beach eats Burger King?  Isn’t everyone on a diet there?
