Cash4Gold: A Deal or a Dupe?

cash-4-goldYou’ve all seen the commercials.  They will send you an envelope for you to send back your gold jewelry and you will get a check back for them!  Sounds too good to be true. And according to reports, it is! First of all, why would anyone send expensive jewelry via UPS with insurance of only $500?  As much as I enjoy shopping and connecting with companies online, this is one thing I would rather go to a jeweler in person for.

Since I thought this company was a scam, I recently went to a jeweler with my old gold jewelry and was told that it isn’t gold, since it wasn’t marked. Apparently, she isn’t too swift a jeweler.  I knew for a fact that every piece was gold, and told her so.  She shook her head and said, “I don’t know who told you that, but they were mistaken”.  I put the ziplock bag of jewelry in my purse and left.  I called my Mom, who purchased some of the jewelry for me.  She said, “of course it’s gold!” I have been pretty busy lately and have not had the chance to go to someone else, but perhaps when I’m in need of some quick cash, I will try again.  However, I will certainly not be mailing it off to a company in hopes of getting a few bucks back.

    Can’t say I’ve tried it, though we have a similar thing in Ireland. I doubt very much it’s even nearly as profitable as they say it is. The ads just seem too…cheap I suppose. If I were you, I’d stay away.

    I have had a good experience with cash4gold. Just make sure you use the original (real) http://www.cash4gold.com or 1-877-465-3590. There are a lot of imitators who are trying to fool people right now. I sent in a few pieces of jewelry that I no longer wear and I got $122 back. The best part was that the transaction was very convenient. I didn’t have to drive to the pawn shop area, which in our town is based in a really seedy neighborhood. I went to a jeweler at the local mall and he offered me $55 and told me rudely to “take it or leave it.” The Cash4Gold customer service guys were very courteous and friendly, I was able to track my pak online at all times and everytime I emailed them I got an answer or call back within a few hours – no pawn shop can do that. You can insure your package for more than $500 they don’t limit what you can insure it for at all. Your mileage may vary, but for me Cash4Gold delivered and I would send more jewelry to them in the future.

    I would strongly suggest checking out the Silver and Gold Exchange before selling gold or silver to ANYONE. I did a great deal of research, online and offline, and learned a lot about this business. I checked pawn shops, jewelers, “gold parties”, hotel “buying events as well as the online buyers, including the “as seen on tv” guys. I found that the Silver and Gold Exchange paid more than anyone else I could find. I liked the fact that they post the prices they pay per gram (beware of the places that quote in pennyweight/DWT) on a live price chart at http://www.SilverAndGoldExchange.com I also checked out their Better Business Bureau report and found they have never had a single complaint as opposed to HUNDREDS of complaints some other companies have! I recommend them 100%
