My Life Without Facebook Games

gamebig_farmvilleBefore my computer crisis a few weeks ago, I was a loyal Facebook game player.  My games of choice were Yoville, Farmville and Mob Wars.  I dabbled in Parking Wars, Smarty Pants and My City.  I would go onto Facebook with the primary goal of tending to my crops and working in the Yoville factory and killing some thugs.  I actually would schedule errands around when these things had to be done in the games.  Then, suddenly, my computer crashed and I *gasp* had to be without it for 5 days.  ”But my crops!! My crops are gonna die!” was a thought that went through my head that night.  I went through some withdrawals.  I thought about the poor little virtual me in Yoville, with nothing to do for a few days.  When I got my computer back, I had over 150 gift requests for the games.  It was then that I realized all of the time that I actually put into them.  And what did I get out of it? Absolutely NOTHING.  The games are just the biggest time-wasters.  They sucked all my time in Facebook away.  Time that I could be actually corresponding with friends, which was the reason I joined Facebook in the first place.  Since I got my computer back, I took a personal vow to not play the games anymore on Facebook.  Thank you to all of my loyal friends who still send me gifts on there, but I am no longer playing them.  And it feels good. You should try it.

I’m not on FB but I know just what you mean, I had some people send me gifts on Fun140, a Twitter thingie with games and gifts and stuff, so I joined so i could send them stuff too (well, they said I ought to and, you know…) And now i can’t stop with the games on there. If you want to register your score (and I do, I do, I am so competitive!) it sends a tweet out to everyone which is, um, really embarrassing to me but…can’t help it. Love the games. I like Shockwave games too, some of them. I also love earning stupid coins, tokens, jewels, you name it, lol

I’m not on Facebook either, but my nephew is obsessed with online games and always insists I play with him or against him. Even when we can’t play against each other, he likes for us to start the same game at the same time so that he can get to a higher level quicker than me. I’ve wasted a ridiculous amount of hours playing with him. Thankfully, it’s going to take 2 weeks for the Internet to be installed where he lives now so I get 2 weeks off. However, I find myself obsessed with other time wasters in the meantime, like checking Joker’s Update and the CBS forums to find out what’s happening on the Big Brother live feeds. I’m just trading one time waster for another, LOL.

Anyway, I have given you a blog award on my blog. Here is the link to it: http://www.justbloggled.com/2009/08/yay-i-got-another-blog-award.html. Congrats.

I am on Facebook, but to be honest I never got into any of the many Facebook games. They just weren’t fun for me. Though loads of my friends have been dragged into it, especially Farmtown. I just don’t see the point. As you said, you get nothing out of them, it’s just a waste of time.

I’d argue that you did get something out of it…enjoyment. While it may have been short lived and after being away for so long you wondered why you spent so much time doing it in the first place, the answer is because you were having fun. That said I’m just about to give up Mafia Wars myself, I don’t miss it when I’m away from my computer and “playing” seems almost like a job at this point. had the same reaction to World of Warcraft. Was a great time and met some great people, but after a few months it was more like work than play. So congrats on kicking the habit, but don’t consider it wasted time. if it made you smile even once or gave you something to talk to a friend about, it was worth it even if it’s not anymore…

I love Facebook! I’m sticking to it forever. Haha!

I’ve been on Facebook for a year. In the beginning I tried everything, but after awhile I just let the games and applications thing go. There are so many hours in a day! I am now just using it to keep up with friends, post pictures and videos. As an added benefit, this leaves me a little time to Twitter :-)

I play lots of games too… it’s an activity during leisure time but if the requests got out of hand, I’ll just ignore them LOL
